Treat and Protect
We all want that summery glow, but how do we get there without compromising our skin in the process? I wish I would have asked myself this question in high school. Maybe then I wouldn’t have spent hours of my life in a tanning bed, lathering myself in tanning oil and scorching my skin to hell and back. But now that I know better, I am trying to do better! And I want to help you do the same. Here are my top tips for protecting your skin during the summer:
Wear sunscreen every day
I have a few favorite ways I protect my face every day. If you want a sunscreen that goes under your makeup, I have been loving how light and smooth the COOLA Sun Silk Drops are.
I adore wearing Dew Skin because it functions as a light tinted moisturizer as well. So I can have a sheer coverage, perfect for work and a natural makeup look, while still getting that SPF 20! I wear it in the shade No. 2!
Tinted Mineral Sunscreen is key! I love this one because it gives me a little color and doesn’t leave me looking white and chalky! Here is an article that explains why you should snag a mineral sunscreen. The chemical ones…just yikes. This one comes in TWO shades! If you get it, ask me how to use it so that we can perfect your application before you hit the pool!
When you do happen to get a little too much sun on your body, exfoliating to get rid of dead skin is so important! That way you can clear the way for soft, fresh skin. I love this lemongrass body scrub because it has an oil in it that leaves your skin feeling hydrated and not scrubbed dry!
If you have a Trader Joe’s near you, their body scrub trio is a great option for when you want to mix it up!
A go-to hat
Whether you are sunbathing or just going for a walk, hats can be a cute way to protect your face! Not to mention they can save a tragic hair day in an instant. I love to have a large, wide brim hat for the beach and a ball cap style for the pool, working out and running errands. These are the two I have been alternating between this summer:
There’s no doubt that too much sun and salt can strip our skin of its natural moisture. There is ONE product I swear by that basically feel like a tall glass of water for your face.
Use an Oil
The right facial oil will help balance your skin and reduce redness or discoloration caused by the sun. Facial oils will change. your. life. I don’t say this lightly! I happen to have a few Beautycounter facial oil samples, so HMU if you want to try one! First come first serve. Consider it a treat to those of you who take the time to read my blog ;)
